Salute the Troops
Aug 2013 - Oct 2013
North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters
Team Lead
Led the North Carolina regional Salute the Troops campaign in partnership with Kangaroo Express and the USO, executing pop-up events across 13+ convenience store locations to raise awareness and support for service members and their families.
Worth noting
A few things I would call out
- Coordinated pop-up USO events across 13+ Kangaroo Express convenience store locations.
- Balanced partner expectations, military representation, event setup, and public engagement.
- Supported awareness and fundraising efforts for military service members and their families.
01 // What was getting in the way
The Salute the Troops program needed strong regional execution in North Carolina to drive awareness, fundraising, and community engagement with military families and service members through a retail partnership.
02 // What I did
I led local execution as a multi-site campaign operation with shared standards across every stop.
The delivery framework included:
- location-by-location planning across 13+ stores for staffing, setup, and schedule timing
- partner alignment between Kangaroo Express teams, USO representatives, and Guard participants
- public engagement readiness for respectful military representation and attendee interaction
- day-of issue handling to keep each activation on schedule and community focused
The emphasis was consistent execution quality across all locations, not one-off event success.
03 // What changed
Delivered a coordinated regional campaign presence across North Carolina that strengthened visibility for service-member support efforts and kept partner operations aligned.
The campaign outcomes included:
- dependable multi-location event execution
- stronger public-facing engagement with military families and community members
- a repeatable operating model for future partner-supported outreach events
