Honor Guard
May 2012 - Oct 2013
North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters
Team Lead
Led and trained Honor Guard teams conducting 540+ annual funeral honors and ceremonial missions across North Carolina, coordinating volunteer teams, statewide logistics, transportation compliance, partner communication, and family-facing ceremonial support.
01 // The Problem
The North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard program needed reliable, scalable leadership to coordinate high-volume funeral honors operations across the entire state while maintaining strict military standards, regional messaging consistency, and seamless coordination with funeral homes and grieving families.
02 // Approach
I led Honor Guard operations through a repeatable execution model built around training, logistics, and ceremonial consistency.
The work broke down into four core responsibilities:
- Team leadership and training to prepare volunteer personnel for funeral honors and ceremonial missions
- Statewide logistics coordination across travel, scheduling, and equipment movement requirements
- Standards and messaging consistency so teams represented the Guard professionally in every region
- Family and partner coordination with funeral homes, military families, and support organizations such as the USO
That structure made it possible to run high-volume honors missions without sacrificing discipline, respect, or operational reliability.
03 // Outcome
Delivered over 540 respectful and professionally executed honors ceremonies annually.
The work established:
- stronger operational consistency across teams and regions
- reliable training standards for new personnel
- disciplined public representation in family-centered ceremonial settings
