878th Engineer Company
Plumber / Engineering Specialist
Served in the North Carolina Army National Guard as a 12K Plumber / Engineering Specialist, contributing to motorpool construction, soldier training, trade skills development, logistics coordination, QRF readiness, and multi-vehicle operations with the 878th Engineer Company.
Worth noting
A few things I would call out
- Supported motorpool construction, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and field infrastructure tasks.
- Helped train incoming soldiers on unit procedures, field expectations, and readiness practices.
- Worked across supply coordination, QRF readiness, and vehicle qualification training.
01 // What was getting in the way
Engineering units depend on cross-trained, mission-ready personnel who can sustain infrastructure, supply chains, and rapid response capabilities alongside ongoing field training demands.
02 // What I did
After Army basic training and 12K Advanced Individual Training, I contributed across several parts of the unit's day-to-day work.
The role included:
- training incoming soldiers on unit procedures and field expectations
- motorpool construction support for the 1451st Transportation Company
- hands-on trade work in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
- logistics and supply coordination to maintain inventory and readiness
- Quick Reaction Force training to support rapid-response capability
- vehicle qualification training across multiple unit-supported vehicle types
The value of the role was its breadth. It demanded technical trade work, operational discipline, and readiness across multiple mission areas instead of one narrow specialty.
03 // What changed
Contributed to the 878th Engineer Company's readiness across infrastructure, logistics, and rapid-response functions while building a broad field skillset.
The result was practical experience in:
- trade work and infrastructure support
- soldier development and team operations
- logistics coordination and field readiness
